Why Benchmarks, Metrics, and Tactics Aren’t Enough (and what is)

Spend just a short amount of time around me and you pretty much get the gist of what I’m all about…

Yes Chris, we know.

Numbers, operational discipline, and accountability.

Run the brewery like a business.

Remove the bottlenecks to growth.

Yup, you’ve got me pegged.

But one thing I don’t always get across…

Is that at the core of everything we help brewery owners with is challenging how they think.

This is what I set out to do earlier this month at the NC Craft Brewers Conference.

My message?

Even though over the past 9 years we have seen breweries and beer styles come and go, the business model has evolved from “lite manufacturing” to (essentially) a bar that makes its own alcohol, and now the Craft Gold Rush is over…

Craft as a whole is still an underdog, and there is a clear path forward to profitable growth.

Today I want to share with you a short excerpt from that presentation that covers something I don’t talk about as much as I should.

That without a strong vision, a well-thought-out strategy, and intelligent leadership team decision-making…

The benchmarks, metrics, and tactics aren’t enough.

In fact, they often have the opposite effect and become the crutch, the excuse, or the bandaid that cover up the real barriers that prevent most breweries from reaching their potential.

Give it a watch below:

And then email me at chris@sbstandard.com to let me know what you think.

P.S. Over the next few weeks we’re going to dig further into the concept I cover in the video.

And I have a sneaking suspicion it might just be “the thing” that connects the dots for you.
